Aleph evaluated Internews’ Closed States Programme (CSP), which focused on supporting independent media in repressive environments across Africa, the Middle East, Eurasia, and Asia. The analysis examined CSP’s role in enhancing media resilience and civic space. Findings showed strong contributions to media freedom but highlighted challenges in measuring long-term impact and sustaining partner organisations. Recommendations included developing a comprehensive results framework, expanding funding models, and enhancing security training for journalists.
